Fee: No charge*
Time commitment — approximately four hours in total, divided as follows:
- Self-study: Modules 1-3 (includes online video lectures, demonstration videos, quizzes; 2-3 hours total)
- Hands-on exercises (for participants with valid MIKE+ Control license; 2 x 30 minutes)
- Optional additional reading (materials available; 1-2 hours)
PRODUCT
MIKE+ Control
Modelling control rules in urban drainage and river networks is key for designing and testing new or enhanced control schemes, as well as for simulating the performance of existing control schemes. Before physical systems are implemented, there’s a need to regularly model the behavior of active elements such as automatically controlled pumps, weirs, gates and valves, as well as reservoirs, retention basins and other water storage facilities.
This course will teach you how using the basic functions of MIKE+ Control.
About MIKE+ Control
The MIKE+ Control is a module within MIKE+, a comprehensive modelling platform for urban drainage, wastewater collection, urban flooding, river systems and water distribution systems. MIKE+ Control enables you to model complex real-time control setups for weirs, gates, valves, pumps etc., in urban drainage and river networks, based on multi-conditional IF-THEN control rules. MIKE+ Control supports both direct control and PID control, with regulator settings and set-point values defined as constants, tabular functions, time series or as a result of algebraic expressions.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
You will benefit from this free, self-paced course if you want to achieve any of the following:
- Extend your MIKE+ hydraulic modelling skills in urban drainage, rivers and wastewater collection networks to include control rules modelling basics
- Understand how the PID controller works
- Learn how to reduce overflows and pollution in the wastewater system you work with
- Learn how to control flows in the river
WHAT ARE MY EXPECTED OUTCOMES?
Upon course completion, you will be able to extend your MIKE+ model with some control rules. You will understand the importance of knowing the actual state of the relevant flow and other process variables to control the system effectively. Also, you will learn how to define sensors as well as control actions and use them to create control rules.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
Each module includes videos, materials and handouts that you need for model examples and quizzes. It will take you around four hours to complete the course at a time that fits your needs and requirements - and in the comfort of your own office, home or any location convenient for you.
